2D & 3D Position Recognition – Vision-Guided Robot Control for Flexible Automation

Precise part positioning is essential for reliable robot-assisted automation. With INOS 2D and 3D Position Recognition, industrial robots know exactly where a component is located – enabling fast, accurate, and adaptable handling and processing in real time.

Robots That See – Accurate Position Data in Real Time

In automated production environments, components often arrive in varying orientations or positions. To ensure high performance, robots must adapt dynamically to these variations – and that’s where machine vision comes in. INOS’ vision-based position recognition solution determines the exact position of objects in either 2D or 3D, and continuously aligns the robot’s actions accordingly – quickly, reliably, and efficiently.

Why Position Recognition Matters

Vision-Powered Robot Guidance

Modern manufacturing – whether automotive, consumer goods, or aerospace – demands flexibility, shorter cycles, and variant-rich production. Vision-guided robot control increases precision, reduces manual intervention, and ensures consistent process quality.

  • Vision software tailored to your process
  • Integration options for PC-based, cabinet, or stand-alone installations
  • Whether you need stationary detection points or sensors mounted directly on robots, the architecture adapts to your automation setup – fast and efficiently.

Diversity and competence in hardware and software

As full-service provider, inos supports customers with smart turnkey solutions consisting of hardware and software – in a modular system, from a single source, entirely according to your needs. Your processes are automated simply, fast and efficiently.

  • PC, in a control cabinet or panel or stand-alone
  • One or more high-tech sensors
  • inos’ visionary system software

Key Benefits of INOS Position Recognition

Consistent Quality

High-performance vision sensors continuously monitor the actual position of components. Robots adjust paths in real time, eliminating the need for costly mechanical alignment and ensuring repeatable handling precision.

Economic Efficiency

Automated position detection reduces engineering and material costs in system design. It also minimizes manual rework and rejects caused by incorrect handling or misalignment.

Maximum Flexibility

Because resolution, field size, and working distance are adjustable and the system is fully scalable, your automation system is simpler, more adaptable, and easier to reconfigure – even for new products or process changes.

How It Works

From Image to Action

Vision sensors capture characteristic features of a workpiece – including its orientation and position in space. Mathematical algorithms then calculate the exact location and orientation (6 degrees of freedom). If the part’s current position deviates from the target, the system generates offset data that is fed back to the robot controller. The robot path is automatically corrected and aligned to the actual component position – all in real time.

Flexible Position Detection

Partial & Full Recognition

INOS’ position recognition systems can detect full component poses or specific features required for precise robot tasks (e.g., hole positions, openings, or mounting points). Sensor configuration, lighting, and camera choice are easily adapted to your process requirements – enabling accurate control even for demanding production steps.

Real-World Use Cases

Vision-guided robot positioning from INOS can be applied across a wide range of applications where precise part placement is critical – for example:

  • Robot-assisted sealing and bead application
  • Sheet metal bonding and seam work
  • Welding operations
  • Part mounting or assembly
  • Any task requiring reliable robot positioning based on real part location
